Cabbage coconut masala curry

cabbage curry




 We can prepare many varities with Cabbage like pickle,fried rice,raita,curies,fries,chutnies,samosa curry and adding in paratas.In north indian dishes it is placed in second position after aloo(potato).We can eat this recipe with rice as well as roti also.Cabbage is a good anti oxidant vegetable and best to stimulate immune system.So we should eat cabbage regularly.This recipe is not regular one because I add coconut masala paste instead of  garam masala.That gives not much spiciness and not smooth  regular taste.


Ingredients




cabbage 1/4 kg
tomato 2
carrot 1
potato 1
green peas 3 spoons
onion 1
green chillies 4
ginger garlic paste 1 spoon
turmeric 1/4 spoon
salt to taste
red chillies power 1 spoon
coconut piece 1/4 of coconut shell
cumin seeds 1/4 spoon
cloves 2
cinnamon 1 inche
coriander leaves few
oil 2 spoons

Preparation


Remove first two upper layers of  the cabbage.Cut the cabbage into small pieces(finely chopped) and put all these pieces in the water for 10 minutes.Add 2 spoons of salt in that water.After that drain the water and keep the cabbage pieces aside.
Wash remaining vegetables with water or better to soak for 15 minutes in salt adding water.
After that Cut onion and green chillies into small pieces.
Cut tomato into small pieces.
Peel the potato and wash it and cut into small pieces and put these pieces in salt adding water till use in cooking.
Peel the carrot and wash it once again and  cut into small pieces.
Wash coriander leaves with the water and cut into small pieces and keep them aside.
Make the ginger garlic paste.
wash the green peas or soak them in the water for 20 minutes.
Drain the water before using it.
Add coconut piece,cumin seeds, cloves,cinnamon in a mixie jar and make a fine coconut masala paste.


Method



1.Add cabbage pieces and 2 cups of water in a pressure pan and cook for 2 to 3 whistes.
2.After pressure in the pan completely comes out then open the lid and drain the water or squeeze the cabbage pieces for removing water.keep them aside.
3.Take a Cooking vessel and put on the stove.
4.Add oil after vessel is heated.
5.Add onions and green chillies and fry till onions turn into light golden colour.
6.Then add ginger garlic paste and stir it and fry for 1 minute.
7. Drain the potato pieces from the water.
8.Add carrot and potato pieces and fry till they become tender.
9.Then add tomato and green peas and fry till tomatoes and peas become tender .It will take 5 to 8 minutes.
10.Add boiled cabbage pieces and stir well.
11.Then add turmeric,salt and red chillie powder and mix all well.Put the lid and fry for some time(nearly 5 minutes).
12.Add coconut masala paste and mix all well .taste the curry if salt is enough or not.
13.If you want more salt add and stir the curry and cook for another 2 to 3 minutes.
14.finally add finely chopped coriander leaves and put off the flame.
15.spicy and tasty mix veg cabbage curry is ready to eat with roti or hot rice...enjoy!!!


Keep in the mind


Adding carrot,potato and green peas is optional. You can add cabbage and tomato pieces only.
If you do not like to add coconut masala you can add garam masala instead of it.
You can add raw cabbage pieces directly  in the curry instead of cooking in the pressure cooker.But it will take much time to cook the curry.
